bio1Dr. Susan Briley is a board certified colon and rectal surgeon. She treats conditions and diseases such as colon-rectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, diverticulitis, anal cancer, hemorrhoids, fissures and fistula. This includes inpatient procedures such as open and laparoscopic colon resection, and outpatient procedures such as hemorrhoidectomy, colonoscopy, sphincterotomy and fistula repair.

Dr. Briley is a native Middle Tennessean. She grew up in Nashville and graduated from Vanderbilt University magna cum laude. She attended medical school at West Virginia University in Morgantown.

After graduating medical school she completed a residency in General Surgery at the University of Illinois at Chicago. One year of that training was spent in colon cancer research. Following surgical residency she completed a residency in Colon and Rectal Surgery at Cook County Hospital in Chicago.

After residency, Dr. Briley went into private practice in Park Ridge, Illinois. Then in 1994 she returned to Nashville to join Dr Terry in private practice. In 2013 she opened a solo practice. She has been an active member of several medical societies and has served as Chief of Surgery at Baptist Hospital and President of Tennessee Women in Medicine. Her personal interests include gardening, reading and travel.

Dr. Briley is committed to providing expert, compassionate care to her patients with diseases of the colon and rectum.
